Van Emden finishes Renewi Tour with mixed feelings
Van Emden Reflects on Mixed Feelings at Renewi Tour
Dutch cyclist Jos van Emden recently completed the Renewi Tour with mixed emotions. While he cherished the opportunity to ride in front of his family for the last time, he couldn’t help but feel disappointed by the lack of victories during the race.
“It was the last time my family could see me ride. That’s a special feeling. Wearing the red, white and blue in the time trial was the highlight of the race for me. In terms of sport, things went a little less smoothly last week. With Olav, we fought for the win several times, but in the end, we went home without a win,” Van Emden said.
As the 38-year-old veteran approaches the end of his career, he admits to feeling a mix of emotions. “I’m starting to realize that the end of a long career is approaching. Since I announced that I would be retiring at the end of this season, I have been thinking about everything in the peloton. Not always in a positive way,” he said.
Van Emden also expressed his concerns about the safety of riders in the Renewi Tour. “The race used to be a very nice race, but how this year’s edition was run must have given a lot of people pause for thought. Once again, the safety of the riders came into play, and that should not be the case,” he said.
Despite the challenges faced during the Renewi Tour, Van Emden remains hopeful to end his career on a positive note in the remaining races over the next few weeks.
The overall victory in the Renewi Tour went to Belgian cyclist Tim Wellens. Van Emden finished in 89th place in the final general classification.
The next races will be crucial for Van Emden as he seeks to leave a lasting impression before retiring from professional cycling.
