Juan Ayuso on His Ambitions and Victories at the Vuelta a España
In an interview after his impressive performance at the Vuelta a España, young cyclist Juan Ayuso shared his thoughts on his ambitions, achievements, and future goals. Despite not achieving his ultimate goal, Ayuso remained positive and focused on his progress.
Ayuso acknowledged the difference between this year’s race and his debut Grand Tour last year, where he finished third overall. He stated, “This year, I came with bigger ambitions but it wasn’t possible against a very strong team.” However, he emphasized the improvement in his performance since last year, and felt proud of his growth as a cyclist.
While Ayuso was awarded the Best Young Rider jersey, he expressed that he and his team had aimed for more. “We came for more,” he said, highlighting their high aspirations. Ayuso also reflected on his experience with the white jersey last year, which he wore for most of the Vuelta but never truly possessed. This year, however, he owned the jersey and claimed victory, making it a special achievement for him.
Despite not achieving all his goals, Ayuso maintained a positive outlook. “It’s not the end of the world if you don’t achieve them,” he remarked. Instead of dwelling on disappointments, Ayuso chose to celebrate and have fun. “I’m not gonna go cry, I’m actually gonna party, have fun,” he said, demonstrating his resilience and determination to continue pursuing his ambitions.
