The eleventh stage of the Giro d’Italia saw Team Visma navigate through a challenging route from Porcari to Chiavari, covering a distance of 195 kilometers. The latter part of the stage proved pivotal as the riders tackled three categorized climbs, leading to an intense finale.
Initially, the stage featured an extended struggle for a breakaway. After a rapid beginning, a group of sixteen riders managed to break free from the peloton. However, as the stage neared its conclusion, this large group began to thin out. Ultimately, Jhonatan Narváez from UAE Team Emirates emerged victorious after a fierce contest with Enric Mas from Movistar Team.
While the breakaway battled for the stage win, the main contenders in the peloton remained tactically cautious, crossing the finish line three minutes behind. Jonas Vingegaard, currently positioned second in the general classification, trails the pink jersey holder, Afonso Eulálio, by 27 seconds.
Reflecting on the day’s events, Vingegaard noted, “The climbs in the finale still made it a tough stage. As a team, we stayed alert in the peloton and reached the finish without any problems. My feeling on the bike was good today, and that’s positive with the tough stages that are still to come in the next few days.”
