Tim Merlier Triumphs in the Crosswinds at AlUla Tour

Tim Merlier triumphed at the AlUla Tour after a stage that was marked by crosswinds and intense racing, bringing a victory to the team in the 35th different country since 2003.

Reflecting on the challenging race, Merlier stated, “It was a typical Belgian day with the echelons and the low temperatures, but thanks to the echelons it became warmer out there. I was very motivated at the start of the stage because today is my son’s birthday, and I wanted this win for him.”

Racing in the wind proved to be a Soudal Quick-Step specialty, with the team executing flawlessly as the peloton split in the final 30 kilometers. Merlier’s victory, marking his 12th in the Soudal Quick-Step jersey, was attributed to the team’s support and his own impeccable sprinting capabilities.

Merlier further added, “Winning early in the season is always good for the confidence, and I’m delighted I could do that in just my third day of racing this year.”
