Avida Bachar: living again, riding again

In the midst of his first ride with us since losing his leg, it happened. His new prosthetic came loose. Everyone around was worried. Everyone except Avida Bachar.

“It’s nothing,” he smiled calmly, and after a few minutes of adjustment, the prosthetic was back in place, and Avida was soaring ahead as if nothing had happened.

That’s Avida Bachar for you. On the horrific day of the October 7 massacre, it seemed he lost his entire world. His 16-year-old son and his wife, the love of his life, were murdered before his eyes in their home in Kibbutz Be’eri. He himself lost his right leg.

Yet, in the months since that dreadful day, Bachar has refused to accept the role of victim that fate seemed to have assigned him. He is determined to embrace a life of optimism and hope.

When we had the honor of hosting him and his good friend Sharon Shabo (who was also badly injured) during the Tour de France. It was an enlightening lesson for all of us in inspiration and human strength.

Discover his inspirational story in the video below.
