Tobias Lund Andresen Secures First WorldTour Podium for Team DSM-Firmenich
Team DSM-Firmenich showcased their strength in the fifth stage of the Gree-Tour of Guangxi, with cyclist Tobias Lund Andresen claiming third place and his first-ever WorldTour podium. The team’s strong teamwork and strategic positioning played a crucial role in Lund Andresen’s success.
The stage, which spanned 209.6 kilometers from Liuzhou to Guilin, was the longest of the week in China. Despite some early attacks, including one from Niklas Märkl, the breakaways were reeled in by the peloton. However, a later break of four riders managed to gain an advantage of up to five minutes before being caught near the end of the race.
Throughout the stage, Team DSM-Firmenich worked cohesively to protect Lund Andresen, who was the team’s sprint leader. With ten kilometers remaining, the team brought Lund Andresen to the front and positioned him well for the final sprint. The Dane chose the right wheels to follow, initiated his sprint at the perfect moment, and crossed the finish line in third place, securing his first WorldTour podium.
Lund Andresen expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “I told the guys I was feeling really good, so we sat at the front and got ready for the sprint. The guys positioned me well towards the front, and then I took over for the last 800 meters. Unfortunately, I caught a bit of wind before starting the sprint, but I did the best sprint I could, and I’m satisfied with my first WT podium.”
The upcoming race on Tuesday will mark the final day of Team DSM-Firmenich’s 2023 campaign, as they aim for another top result in the final stage of the Gree-Tour of Guangxi. Lund Andresen and the team are determined to end the season on a high note, showcasing their strength and determination.
