Tim Merlier Makes History at the UAE Tour with Another Bunch Sprint Win
Tim Merlier has continued his winning streak at the UAE Tour, becoming the first rider in the event’s history to win the first two bunch sprints of an edition. The 31-year-old secured his fourth victory of the season at the fourth stage of the race in Dubai, showcasing his incredible speed once again.
After a quiet day, the race heated up in the final kilometers as teams jostled for position. Merlier’s Soudal Quick-Step teammates played a crucial role in setting the pace and ensuring he was well-positioned for the sprint. The outstanding teamwork put Merlier in a perfect position on the run-in to the finish, allowing him to patiently wait before unleashing his sprint.
Reflecting on his win, Merlier expressed his happiness and excitement, stating, “Today was a slow pace the whole stage, but in the end it became hectic. The team put me in a good position, and I waited for the last 500 meters before deciding to change the speed and make my move.”
Merlier acknowledged the challenge ahead but expressed his determination, saying, “Getting two victories gives me a great feeling. I would love to add at least another one, and although I know it will be difficult, I am looking forward to the next two days.”
This latest win marks Merlier’s 15th victory in the Soudal Quick-Step jersey. With his eyes set on further success, Merlier’s impressive performance has solidified his status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of cycling.
