Three Riders Shine in Challenging Stage of O Gran Camiño
After a demanding second stage of O Gran Camiño, three riders from the Groupama-FDJ cycling team have positioned themselves well for the general classification. Lenny Martinez, Quentin Pacher, and David Gaudu delivered strong performances, placing them in contention for the GC ahead of the upcoming stages. As highlighted by Jussi Veikkanen, the race dynamics on the hilly terrain truly tested the riders’ mettle.
The stage was marked by adverse weather conditions, with rain, sleet, and low temperatures adding to the challenge. Jussi Veikkanen remarked on the tough day, stating, “It really was, with rain, even sleet, 3-4 degrees, and even wind. It was truly a day for warriors.” Enzo Paleni also emphasized the mental preparedness required in such conditions, stating, “In these conditions, you have to be mentally prepared before the start, and we were so.” The riders’ strategic positioning and commitment throughout the stage played a crucial role, showcasing the team’s strength and determination.
The challenging ascent of the Alto de San Pedro de Licora proved decisive, with key moves and breakaways shaping the final outcome. Jonas Vingegaard’s attack set the stage for a thrilling finale, with Lenny Martinez and David Gaudu showcasing their climbing capabilities. Despite Vingegaard’s dominance, Groupama-FDJ riders demonstrated unity and resilience, with Quentin Pacher and Reuben Thompson also delivering strong performances.
As the race progresses, Groupama-FDJ finds itself in a strong position with three riders in the top-12 overall standings. Looking ahead, Jussi Veikkanen emphasized the upcoming challenges, noting, “Tomorrow is the easiest stage on paper, but I think there will be some hard racing because there are already a lot of gaps in the GC, then there’ll be the queen stage on Sunday.” With promising performances in the bag, the team is poised for further success in the remaining stages of O Gran Camiño.
