New Edition of DHM in Road Racing to be Held in Sebnitz as Part of Rad-Bundesliga
The general German university sports association (adh) will be organizing a new edition of the German University Championships (DHM) in road racing, in collaboration with the German Cycling Federation (BDR), on September 10, 2023. The DHM title bouts will be integrated into the “Müller – Die lila Logistik Radbundesliga” in Sebnitz.
The DHM classification will take place directly in the respective races of the Rad-Bundesliga, with the first student to cross the finish line being crowned the DHM champion. Previous winner, Justin Wolf, who currently ranks second in the Bundesliga, will be competing in Sebnitz for his team Sportforum p/b MyFitness Apotheke, but is no longer eligible for the DHM. Students from all universities, including administrative universities and distance learning students, are eligible to participate in the DHM up to 365 days after receiving their graduation certificate.
“The DHM also presents an interesting tactical challenge for the national league teams,” said BDR Vice President Günter Schabel. To ensure that the DHM does not skew the competition, Bundesliga teams will be allowed to enter a maximum of eight starters. Students in the team line-up should register with the adh to ensure a complete DHM ranking.
Individual starters who are entitled to participate can also join the DHM by registering with the adh through their respective university sports office. However, it is necessary for athletes to hold a valid racing license from the BDR on the day of the event in order to be eligible for the DHM.
“Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer our popular format adh-Pokal to hobby cyclists again this year, but we are already working on a solution for next year,” said Martin Wördehoff, the head of discipline responsible for cycling in the adh.
