The Škoda Tour de Luxembourg 2025 through the eyes of Andy Schleck

# A Look Ahead: The 2025 Škoda Tour de Luxembourg Through Andy Schleck’s Lens

The 2025 Škoda Tour de Luxembourg is set to deliver an exhilarating experience as it weaves through a tapestry of challenging hilly stages, exciting sprint finishes, a climactic finale at Vianden Castle, and a pivotal time trial. Andy Schleck, the event’s president, shares his insights on what to expect in each of the five stages.

**Stage 1: Luxembourg-Knuedler – Luxembourg-Fëschmaart (152.8 km)**
Kicking off in the vibrant capital at « Knuedler » square, the race promises an engaging spectator experience. Cyclists will navigate through Oesling, facing early challenges with climbs such as Putscheid, Bourscheid, and Eschdorf. The strategic importance of the first **Spuerkeess Bonus Sprint** looms large, as Schleck recalls a past event, stating, “Remember, two years ago the overall victory was decided by just three seconds!” The stage culminates with an intense 800 m uphill finish in Luxembourg City.

**Stage 2: Remich – Mamer (168.4 km)**
A treat for sprinters, this stage was shaped by Schleck’s brother, Fränk. Strategically designed with under 2,000 metres of climbing, it features early challenges before transitioning into a surge towards the finish. The racers will tackle a near 1 km finishing stretch, slightly uphill, ending in front of the historic home of Nicolas Frantz, a double Tour de France champion.

**Stage 3: Mertert – Vianden (170.5 km)**
Dubbed “the queen stage,” this segment takes competitors from a low point in the Grand-Duchy to the majestic Vianden Castle. After challenging climbs at Beaufort and Munshausen, riders will confront three grueling ascents of the Niklosbierg, where the first ascent includes the **Spuerkeess Bonus Sprint**. Schleck envisions a spectacular finish, describing it as “a narrow cobbled road with gradients up to 18% leading straight into the medieval castle courtyard.” Victors here will undoubtedly become strong contenders for the overall title.

**Stage 4: Individual Time Trial Niederanven (26.3 km)**
Time trials are notoriously tricky to design. However, Niederanven offers a suitable rolling course that presents a formidable challenge. Schleck predicts that the fastest riders will average upwards of 50 km/h, making this stage critical in the general classification battle.

**Stage 5: Mersch – Luxembourg-Limpertsberg (176.4 km)**
The finale promises to electrify the competition and may drastically influence the overall standings. Riders will tackle climbs in the north before entering Luxembourg City for the latter stages, facing the steep Pabeierbierg thrice. The last **Spuerkeess Bonus Sprint** of the race adds further tension, as Schleck notes the vibrant atmosphere created by young cyclists participating in the **ACL Balance Bike Race** and the iconic “Tour Devil” Didi Senft rallying support.

With a blend of suspense, history, and a celebration of cycling culture, the 85th edition of the Škoda Tour de Luxembourg is bound to be a memorable event for both participants and fans alike.
