The Crash. The Gesture: Itamar Einhorn’s Extraordinary Victory in the Nationals

Itamar Einhorn was crowned the new Israeli road race champion, but his journey to victory was marked by an extraordinary display of sportsmanship. During the championship race in the northern Golan Heights, four senior riders from Israel – Premier Tech surged ahead, leaving the peloton behind. However, Einhorn lost focus and crashed seven kilometers before the finish line. Instead of continuing on, his teammates Omer Goldstein, Guy Sagiv, and Guy Niv chose to wait for him.

Einhorn later said, “It was not an obvious gesture and I really appreciate what they did.” After rejoining his teammates, the battle for victory resumed. Despite the attacks from his teammates, Einhorn gave it his all and ultimately won the sprint, claiming the champion’s jersey. He expressed his deep gratitude for his friends’ gesture, stating, “This, of course, is very emotional as it’s my first Elite Championship.”

In a clean sweep for Israel – Premier Tech, Einhorn was joined on the podium by Guy Sagiv in second place and Omer Goldstein, who had previously won the national time trial champion’s jersey. Goldstein will also be participating in the upcoming Tour de France.
