Keegan Swenson Smashes Course Record at 2023 Stages Cycling Leadville Trail 100 MTB

In a stunning display of dominance, Keegan Swenson broke the course record by over 15 minutes at the 2023 Stages Cycling Leadville Trail 100 MTB race, produced by Life Time. Swenson’s record-breaking time of 5:43:31 solidified his place as the defending champion and established a new standard for the famed ‘Race Across the Sky’.

Swenson, hailing from Heber City, Utah, expressed his determination to surpass the previous record: “I didn’t want to just get the record by a few seconds, I wanted to make it mine.” He pushed himself to the limit, stating, “I just put my head down and gave it everything I had on my way back from Columbine.” Swenson’s commanding lead resulted in a solo finish a staggering 21 minutes faster than his nearest competitor.

Sofia Gomez Villafane emerged victorious in the women’s race, leading for most of the day in a close battle with Ruth Winder and Alexis Skarda. The top three women showcased their strength and endurance as they crossed the finish line.

The Stages Cycling Leadville Trail 100 MTB race attracted a diverse field of over 1,750 riders from all 50 states and 25 countries. Participants ranged from 18 to 80 years old, including 59 Leadville citizens representing their hometown. The challenging race course highlighted the riders’ skills as they tackled 105 miles and 12,000 feet of elevation gain, including the formidable Columbine Pass at 12,500 feet above sea level.

Race Director Tamira Jenlink praised the participants, stating, “It was a truly phenomenal day, from every possible angle.” She commended the record-setting performances and emphasized the tenacity displayed by every rider. “From the winner to the very last finisher, everyone dug deep and finished in Leadville Strong style!”
