Team Visma | Lease a Bike stays out of trouble in second stage of Paris-Nice
# Team Visma | Lease a Bike Navigates Second Stage of Paris-Nice with Care
The second stage of the Paris-Nice race unfolded with a grueling 187-kilometer journey from Épône to Montargis. Right from the start line, three riders broke away, establishing a lead of two and a half minutes. However, their advantage wasn’t significant enough to shake the determined peloton. As the kilometers dwindled, the pace slowed down, leading to a strategic reformation of the pack.
In an unexpected turn, Daan Hoole launched a solo attack, prompting a vigorous response from the sprinter teams who had to exert considerable energy to reel him back in. They managed to catch him just before the finish, allowing Max Kanter of the XDS Astana Team to clinch victory in the subsequent sprint.
Despite the day’s challenges, Team Visma | Lease a Bike finished the stage unscathed, showcasing their disciplined approach. Sports director Marc Reef commented on the team’s strategy: “It was a good day. We got through the stage well and were able to save energy for tomorrow,” referencing the team time trial that looms ahead as a significant event.
Reef continued, “There were a number of crashes, but we were never involved. We had made the decision to stay at the back to save energy, and in hindsight that proved to be the right choice. Now we are focusing on tomorrow’s team time trial. That will be an important day.”
The rankings for this stage reflected Team Visma’s strong presence, with Axel Zingle leading their riders at 21st place. Other team members, including Edoardo Affini and Victor Campenaerts, followed closely behind, showing the team’s collective resilience as they gear up for the challenges ahead.
As the team eyes the crucial time trial, all focus turns towards a strategic approach, bolstering hopes of climbing further up the rankings in this prestigious cycling event.
