Team Visma | Lease a Bike Riders Thrive in Challenging Stage 2 of Itzulia Basque Country
In a treacherous second stage of Itzulia Basque Country, Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders demonstrated resilience as they navigated through the demanding course. Starting in Irun and crossing the Spanish-French border, the peloton faced a tough challenge with a breakaway group taking the lead early on.
As the race unfolded, adverse weather conditions added an extra element of difficulty. Despite the rain-soaked finale and slippery roads, Jonas Vingegaard and Loe van Belle managed to finish in the first group, with the rest of the team crossing the finish line safely shortly after.
“I am relieved that we survived this stage unscathed,” expressed sports director Frans Maassen. “The rain and the slippery roads proved to be very dangerous. It was a stressful day, but I’m glad we were able to finish it trouble-free. In the end, Loe did a great job in keeping Jonas out of trouble.”
Looking ahead, the riders will face the longest stage of the race on Wednesday, featuring six categorized climbs. Vingegaard currently sits in a strong fifth position in the general classification as the team continues to tackle the challenges of Itzulia Basque Country.
