Team Visma | Lease a Bike gets through shortened queen stage of Paris–Nice unscathed
# Team Visma | Lease a Bike Navigates Tough Conditions in Shortened Paris–Nice Stage
In a dramatic turn of events for Stage 7 of the Paris–Nice cycling race, the organization announced the removal of the final climb to Auron due to the anticipated snowfall and treacherous winter conditions. The stage was further shortened to a 47-kilometer route from Pont Louis Nucera to Isola after heavy rain fell in Nice this morning.
From the outset, Team Visma | Lease a Bike seized control of the peloton, with the yellow-and-black squad setting a rigorous pace. Dutch rider Tim Marsman made an attempt to break away, but his efforts were quickly neutralized. Thanks to the strong teamwork, race leader Jonas Vingegaard safely navigated the challenging conditions and crossed the finish line without incident.
As the race progressed, a reduced peloton geared up for a sprint in Isola. Axel Zingle fought for position but ultimately finished in fifteenth place. Vingegaard retains his overall lead with just one day left in the race.
Jonas Vingegaard noted, “For us, the key was to stay focused and reach the line safely,” emphasizing the importance of maintaining composure through the slippery conditions that led to several crashes near the finish.
Reflecting on the day’s challenges, Vingegaard stated, “Paris–Nice is one of the biggest races on the calendar, so of course we understand that racing had to take place today. We also wanted to race. But we finished in the snow, and it was very slippery in the final kilometers. Fortunately, we managed to avoid [the crashes], and I hope everyone is okay. Hopefully, we’ll have better weather conditions tomorrow. We are one day closer to the overall victory.”
In the final results for Stage 7, Dorian Godon of INEOS Grenadiers claimed victory with a time of 1:01:48, followed closely by Biniam Girmay and Cees Bol. Vingegaard finished in 60th place but remains firmly in the lead in the general classification.
The team’s focus will shift to the final stage, where they hope to secure the ultimate victory in the prestigious race.
