In a thrilling conclusion to the five-day Tour of Oman, Team Visma | Lease a Bike celebrated as Patryk Goszczurny clinched the prestigious golden jersey. The final stage took place on the iconic Green Mountain, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown among the cyclists.
The concluding climb was pivotal, especially after a five-rider breakaway was eventually caught. Among the competitive field, Tijmen Graat made a notable impression by remaining in the elite group longer than many expected. However, with two kilometers to the finish line, he found it challenging to maintain the pace and opted to finish at his own rhythm. “We had secretly hoped for more in the final. Tijmen was fantastically brought to the foot of the final climb by Aldo and Patryk. It looked pretty good at first, but the last two kilometers were too much,” commented Director Sportif Robert Wagner.
Wagner also praised Patryk’s determination throughout the race. “It’s very impressive what Patryk has shown this week. He was in the breakaway three times and yesterday he was only caught three kilometers before the finish,” he noted. With his outstanding performance and his first race experience with the WorldTeam, Goszczurny not only achieved the combativity classification but also brought home the golden jersey—a well-deserved reward.
Reflecting on the challenges the team faced, Wagner added, “After Sepp and Bart abandoned, we had to adjust our goals and see what we could still achieve. In the end, we went for the jersey with Patryk and we succeeded.”
