Team Jayco AlUla Sets Sights on GP de Québec and Montréal with Star Riders Matthews and Yates

Tour de France stage winners Michael Matthews and Simon Yates are ready to lead Team Jayco AlUla at the upcoming GP de Québec and Montréal races in Canada. The Australian outfit plans to launch a two-pronged attack with Matthews targeting the GP de Québec on September 8th and Yates taking on the GP de Montréal on September 10th.

Matthews has had tremendous success in Québec, with five podium finishes in the past six years and two victories in 2018 and 2019. This year, the riders will face a challenging 201km urban circuit in Québec, consisting of 16 laps and 2,900m of altitude gain.

On Sunday, the team will shift their focus to the GP de Montréal, a race where Matthews has also tasted victory before. The riders will tackle a more demanding course, with a total of 18 laps and 4,800m of altitude gain, making it a distance of 221km. To prepare for the climbing challenges, Team Jayco AlUla has recruited support from climbers Chris Harper and Lucas Hamilton, as well as workhorses Alex Balmer, Lawson Craddock, and Chris Juul-Jensen.

Expressing his excitement for the races in Canada, Matthews said, “Quebec and Montréal are two of my favorite races on the WorldTour calendar… they are two really challenging courses that, with each lap, create a great selection in the peloton.” He also mentioned his good form and readiness for the races, stating, “I raced last Sunday in Plouay and although I just missed out on the top-10, I had good legs and good sensations so I’m feeling ready.”

Sport Director Mathew Hayman emphasized the team’s strong history in these races, saying, “We are really looking forward to these two races that this team has won on a number of occasions.” He highlighted Matthews’ success in Québec and the suitability of the Montréal race for climbers, making the team confident in their options with both Matthews and Yates.

With their star riders leading the way, Team Jayco AlUla is set to take on the challenges of GP de Québec and Montréal with high hopes for success.
