Jorgenson looks ahead to 2026 with a fresh perspective
# Matteo Jorgenson Sets Ambitious Goals for 2026 Cycling Season
As the 2026 cycling season approaches, Matteo Jorgenson expresses renewed enthusiasm for his upcoming races. “I’ve got a lot of energy to start the new season,” he states, emphasizing the adjustments he’s made in collaboration with his team. “Together with the team, I’ve adjusted my calendar slightly compared to my first two seasons here. I’ve set new goals for myself, and the team fully supports me in that.”
Among his planned races, Liège–Bastogne–Liège stands out prominently on his calendar. Traditionally known for his strengths in the Flemish classics, Jorgenson is poised to shift his focus towards the Ardennes in 2026. “Ideally, I’d like to ride all the spring classics, but you have to make choices,” he explains.
“In 2026 I’ll skip a few of the Flemish races and focus more on the hilly classics. One of my main goals in the spring is Liège–Bastogne–Liège, a race I’m hugely excited about,” he adds. “I feel that this type of race, with longer climbs, suits me better. I’m setting the bar high, and that makes it a great challenge.”
A notable change in his lineup also involves Paris–Nice, a race he has consistently participated in but will be skipping this year. “At first, I was hesitant when the idea of skipping Paris–Nice was raised,” Jorgenson admits. “But with my goals later in the season in mind, this is the right decision. That’s why I’ve chosen to race the Italian block this year, with Strade Bianche, Tirreno–Adriatico, and Milan–San Remo.”
Following a busy spring, Jorgenson is looking ahead to one of the most prestigious events in cycling: the Tour de France. He plans to participate in the Tour de Suisse beforehand, which will give him a chance to race for the general classification. “The Tour is always the highlight of my season. I’ll do everything I can to be in top form and to support Jonas Vingegaard as best as possible,” he emphasizes.
Reflecting on his recent years, Jorgenson notes, “The past two seasons were almost identical for me, so a change was welcome. The coming year brings new impulses and challenges. It felt like the right moment to try something new, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
As Jorgenson gears up for the new season, fans and fellow competitors alike will be eager to see how his strategic changes will impact his performance on the road.
