Fem van Empel recently finished in second place at the Gavere World Cup, facing a fierce battle on the challenging course. She remarked, “The race taught me a lot,” highlighting the physical and mental tests she encountered during the competition. Van Empel acknowledged her opponent’s strength, stating, “One rider was stronger today,” as she reflected on Puck Pieterse’s performance, ultimately conceding, “Puck deserved this win.”
Van Empel revealed her mixed emotions, expressing, “I lacked control on the descents. I didn’t want to hurt my knee again, so I was careful,” emphasizing the physical risks she navigated during the race. Despite the challenges, she showcased resilience, stating, “I didn’t give up and still managed to finish second. That’s the big positive from today.”
Amidst her recent race, Van Empel remains undeterred, with plans to compete in two more cross-country races, displaying her determination and commitment to her sport. She is set to participate in the upcoming races in Heusden-Zolder and Hulst, demonstrating her enduring spirit and competitive drive.
