Tadej Pogačar wins Il Lombardia 2023!
Tadej Pogačar Secures Victory in Il Lombardia 2023
Slovenian rider Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates has emerged victorious in the 117th edition of Il Lombardia presented by Crédit Agricole. Pogačar completed the 238km route from Como to Bergamo in a time of 5 hours, 55 minutes, and 33 seconds, with an average speed of 40.163km/h. He was followed closely by Andrea Bagioli of Soudal Quick-Step and Primož Roglič of Jumbo-Visma, who finished second and third respectively.
Pogačar’s win marks his third consecutive victory in Il Lombardia, a feat only accomplished by two cycling legends in the past – Alfredo Binda and Fausto Coppi. His triumph came after a remarkable 30-kilometer solo attack, solidifying his dominance in the race.
Expressing his joy after the race, Pogačar spoke of his delight in achieving this milestone. He said, “To win for the third time in my third participation and for the second time here in Bergamo, it’s a dream come true. I wanted to win solo but I thought Alexander Vlasov would stay with me for longer because he was one of the strongest today. In the moment I got a little gap, I did the descent much better than two years ago. I got cramps on my right leg and I’ve thought I was done but I pushed through. It’s amazing!”
Pogačar’s victory in Il Lombardia further cements his status as one of the top cyclists in the world and adds another remarkable achievement to his already illustrious career. With his remarkable performances, Pogačar continues to inspire and captivate cycling enthusiasts around the globe.
