Strong teamwork lifts Jorgenson to second overall in the Tirreno-Adriatico

# Jorgenson Shines with Teamwork, Captures Second Place at Tirreno-Adriatico

Matteo Jorgenson, the 26-year-old star of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, showcased exceptional teamwork to secure second place overall in the prestigious Tirreno-Adriatico. After a thrilling final stage, Jorgenson expressed his joy, stating, “We played this perfectly. It’s the first sprint I have ever won in my career.”

Despite entering the last stage in third in the general classification, Jorgenson knew that winning bonus seconds during the intermediate sprint was crucial if he wanted to climb the standings. Early on in the race, a trio of breakaway riders attempted to gain a lead, but Team Visma | Lease a Bike positioned itself strategically at the front of the peloton.

Assisted by teammates, including the famed Wout van Aert, Jorgenson was guided into an ideal position for the crucial sprint. He executed his finish skillfully, ensuring he wouldn’t miss the chance to earn essential seconds.

“I simply couldn’t afford to miss out on the intermediate sprint,” Jorgenson admitted after safely crossing the finish line along the Adriatic coast. While he harbored ambitions of winning the overall title, Jorgenson remained humble, recognizing the strength of his competitors: “Of course I came here to win, but I’m also very happy with the second place. Isaac Del Toro was the strongest rider this week, and you have to be honest about that.”

Teammate solidarity proved vital throughout the race, and Jorgenson made sure to thank them for their support: “After all the hard work from the team, I simply couldn’t afford to miss out on the intermediate sprint. Luckily, I didn’t,” he shared with relief.

Sports director Jesper Mørkøv reflected on the team’s performance with pride, saying, “We rode several strong stages and always kept our goal of the general classification in mind. The fact that Matteo finished second in the final classification thanks to strong teamwork makes it even better. I can only be satisfied.”

With the race’s high stakes and impressive displays of teamwork, Jorgenson’s journey through the Tirreno-Adriatico will be remembered as a testament to collaboration and determination in professional cycling.
