Fin Tarling shows himself on home roads at the Tour of Britain

# Fin Tarling Shines at Home on Tour of Britain

**Welsh cyclist Fin Tarling celebrated the first Welsh stage of this year’s Lloyds Tour of Britain with an impressive performance, taking part in a breakaway on challenging terrain.**

The **18-year-old** rider was part of a nine-man group that escaped early during the Queen Stage, showcasing his talent before getting caught as they approached the infamous climb known as The Tumble—beloved among cyclists in South Wales. Teammate Joe Blackmore finished strong, placing 13th, which allowed him to advance to 12th in the general classification alongside renowned competitor Remco Evenepoel.

Reflecting on his day in the breakaway, Tarling stated, *“Really good day in the break. Crazy fans, and I kind of forgot about the pain for a while after I got into the excitement of it all.”*

He pointed out the significance of this stage, saying, *“This was the stage that I wanted to get in the breakaway for. Tim [Elverson, IPT Academy Manager] and I talked about it, and that there’d be a bit of freedom if it was the right thing for the team. I picked the right moment and, thankfully, the group ended up going clear.”*

After fulfilling his role in the breakaway, Tarling enjoyed a more relaxed ride up The Tumble, where he joyously reunited with family and friends. He added, *“I saw some old friends and my family at the top. It’s my mum’s birthday, so that was really special.”*

Although this was Tarling’s debut in a UCI ProSeries event, he’s no stranger to competition, having previously completed the Giro d’Abruzzo, a four-day race. Now, he looks to build on his experience in the ongoing Tour of Britain, which culminates in Cardiff.

He remarked, *“I think I’m coping with the step up; I think it’s gone pretty smoothly so far. Learning every day is the main thing, but I think from day one, I’ve felt pretty confident moving about the peloton, and the legs have been good so far.”*
