Sisteron returns in Paris-Nice
**Quiet Day for Sisteron as Stage Five Unfolds at Paris-Nice**
In a recent stage of the Paris-Nice race, Soudal Quick-Step ensured its leader had a peaceful journey as the cycling event made its way through Sisteron. The picturesque town, known as the “Gateway to Provence” with its medieval fortress, returned to the race after a six-year hiatus, having last featured in a Tour de France stage where Julian Alaphilippe sported the yellow jersey.
The peloton didn’t seem fazed by the four classified climbs as they diligently controlled the race, keeping only four riders in the breakaway and maintaining a three-minute gap. Ultimately, the breakaway was caught, leading to a final bunch sprint which was clinched by Olav Kooij from Visma-Lease a Bike.
Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel safely maintained his fifth position in the general classification, just 30 seconds behind the race leader. With his focus now shifting towards the challenging stage six, the longest of the week, Evenepoel prepares to tackle five classified ascents including a steep one averaging 10.3% towards the end of the race.
As the Paris-Nice race progresses, the competition heats up, and cyclists like Evenepoel navigate the ups and downs of the terrain in pursuit of victory.
