Simon Carr Dominates Genting Highlands, Takes Lead in Overall Standings
EF Education-EasyPost Sweeps Top Spots in Queen Stage
Genting Highlands, Malaysia – Simon Carr of EF Education-EasyPost showcased his climbing prowess as he crushed his rivals in the Genting Highlands stage of the race. Carr, 25, separated himself from the pack in the final four kilometers of the punishing climb, leaving Alexander Jefferson Cepeda behind. He crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 3 hours 24.06 seconds, securing the stage win and the overall leader’s green jersey.
This victory marked the fifth time in the Tour’s history that riders from the same team achieved a one-two finish. Carr’s teammate, from Ecuador, finished 49 seconds behind him, solidifying EF Education-EasyPost’s dominance in the stage.
Carr expressed his elation at the win, dedicating it to his late grandfather. He acknowledged the pressure of racing in Malaysia for the first time and commended the quality of riders in the competition. Carr started the day in third place overall with a 10-second deficit but managed to take the lead with a total time of 19 hours 25 minutes and 10 seconds.
Cepeda, despite falling off the pace after going solo at the 6km mark, was satisfied with his performance and the team’s success. He recognized Carr’s superior form and was glad to have contributed to the team’s triumph.
In other race jersey changes, Simon Pellaud of Tudor Cycling Team maintained his lead in the mountains standings, donning the TOURISM MALAYSIA Red Polka Dot jersey. Arvid de Kleijn held onto the KBS Orange Sprints Jersey by a narrow margin, while Vadim Pronsky of Astana took over the BEAUTIFUL TERENGGANU White Jersey as the Best Asian rider.
The next stage, from Karak to the historical town of Melaka, is set to favor sprinters. With a flat route covering 174.5km, it will feature three intermediate sprints and two small climbs. The competition is heating up as the riders continue their quest for victory.
