BORA – hansgrohe, the German WorldTeam, has announced the addition of Shane Archbold and the return of Patxi Vila as Sports Directors for the upcoming season. Archbold, a 34-year-old cyclist from New Zealand, recently retired from professional cycling. His new role will primarily involve mentoring and guiding the younger riders on the team, such as Alexander Hajek and Emil Herzog. Archbold expressed his excitement for the opportunity to pass on his experience and knowledge to the future of BORA – hansgrohe, stating, “I will work together with the guys to get the best out of themselves.”

Patxi Vila, who is celebrating his 48th birthday today, brings significant experience with over ten seasons as a Coach and Sports Director. Vila had previously been part of the BORA – hansgrohe team from 2017 to 2019. Reflecting on his return, Vila said, “It feels like coming back home. I’m excited for the 2024 season, which I hope will be successful for BORA – hansgrohe. Especially with the big move the team has made, we’ll be able to fight for the biggest win in the World.”

Rolf Aldag, Head of Sports at BORA – hansgrohe, lauded Archbold’s professionalism and strategic insight, stating, “Shane is very professional and has a very deep insight into strategies. From a DS point of view, we are happy that he is now taking the next step and giving young riders the chance to benefit from his experience!” Aldag also praised Vila’s extensive knowledge of bike races and his familiarity with the team’s structures, which will ease his transition back into the role.
