Sep Vanmarcke Secures Redemption with Third Place Finish at Gent-Wevelgem
Belgian cyclist Sep Vanmarcke was all smiles as he crossed the finish line in third place at the Gent-Wevelgem race. Despite not taking the top spot, the podium finish was a triumph for Vanmarcke, who had a disappointing Classics season last year. This marked his third time on the podium at Gent-Wevelgem, and he was accompanied by his daughter for the special moment.
In the final kilometers of the race, Vanmarcke strategically launched his sprint, eventually winning the four-man battle for third place. Reflecting on his performance, Vanmarcke stated, “Best of the rest is always nice. I’m super happy… everything was possible and I started to be really active… I used him [Pedersen] as a lead out and sprinted to a nice third place.”
While Christophe Laporte and Wout Van Aert claimed the top two steps of the podium, Vanmarcke’s strong showing proves that he is returning to top form. He expressed, “I had a good winter and I stayed healthy… now today proves that if you keep trying for your best, at one point you will get a good result. It’s a big relief for me and for the team. The result today gives me confidence for the next races.”
Sep’s third-place finish was praised by Sports Director Dirk Demol, who stated, “Third-place is an incredible result… Sep being third behind Laporte and Van Aert is like a victory for me.”
With this impressive performance, Vanmarcke is now looking forward to the Tour of Flanders with renewed confidence.
