Sam Welsford Joins BORA – hansgrohe to Bolster Sprinting Group

Sam Welsford, an Australian cyclist, will be joining BORA – hansgrohe starting from January 1st, 2024. He will be bringing his sprinting skills to strengthen the team’s group of sprinters. Welsford has already showcased his abilities in recent races, including the Renewi Tour.

With the addition of Sam Welsford, BORA – hansgrohe aims to expand their sprinter squad. The 27-year-old rider is a multiple world champion on the track and has been focusing on road cycling for the past two years. He has already secured four victories in sprint finishes this season.

Rolf Aldag, the Head of Sports at BORA – hansgrohe, expressed his excitement about Welsford’s arrival, stating, “Sam is a pure sprinter and has one of the highest final speeds in the peloton. He fits perfectly among the top sprinters in our team. He showed his great potential at Scheldeprijs, the unofficial sprinters’ championship, and most recently in Belgium. And that’s exactly what we want to build on together. Because our goal is clear: with Sam, the number of our wins per season should increase.”

Sam Welsford himself shared his enthusiasm about joining BORA – hansgrohe, saying, “I’m super excited to join BORA – hansgrohe and to work with their amazing staff and riders. I want to make the next step in my sprint career. I’m keen to develop and to get the jersey on the top step of the podium. The team has a huge history with really good sprinters and their development. So, for me to join such a team is really nice.”
