Marc Sarreau Secures AG2R CITROËN’s 500th Victory at Tour Poitou-Charentes

Marc Sarreau emerged victorious in the first stage of the Tour Poitou-Charentes, marking a significant milestone for the AG2R CITROËN team. This win represents the team’s 500th victory since its establishment in 1992.

In a post-race interview, Sarreau expressed his joy in returning to the winning track after a series of setbacks. He credited his team’s exceptional performance, stating, “The team did a tremendous job. Oliver (Naesen) and I had agreed that we had to be well placed at the last traffic circle, but that the most important thing was to get going again. He dropped me off at the 250m mark and I was able to keep all my speed, which was perfect.”

Sarreau also acknowledged the challenges he has faced in the past few years and expressed hope for a positive period ahead. He emphasized the team’s determination to defend the leader’s jersey and capitalize on the remaining opportunities throughout the week.

Vincent Lavenu, the general manager of the AG2R CITROËN team, celebrated this milestone and recognized the collective effort of partners, riders, and staff over the team’s 31-year history. Lavenu expressed pride in Sarreau’s success amid challenging times and emphasized the team’s ambition to achieve further victories swiftly.

In other news, Ben O’Connor secured a sixth-place finish in the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Espana. O’Connor expressed satisfaction with his performance and highlighted the support of his teammates in the final stretch. Sports director Julien Jurdie praised O’Connor’s top-six finish and commended the team’s strategical execution.

The AG2R CITROËN team now looks forward to capitalizing on the favorable terrain ahead in the Vuelta a Espana, aiming to maintain their strong position in the race.
