Michael Woods Claims Second Overall Win in La Route d’Occitanie with Impressive Team Performance
Michael Woods secured the overall victory in La Route d’Occitanie for the second time, thanks to his strong Israel – Premier Tech teammates on the final day of racing. Woods expressed his joy and gratitude, saying, “It’s really special to win this race overall for a second time. This is an area I really like, not far from my home in Andorra, and to have my family and kids there to watch me win on Father’s Day was something really special”.
The IPT riders were well aware that controlling the undulating final stage wouldn’t be easy. Omer Goldstein represented the team in the early breakaway, while the rest of the squad supported Woods in the peloton. Stevie Williams played a crucial role, ensuring that Woods stayed out of trouble throughout the race.
On the final climb, Woods and Williams remained in a select group of riders, joined later by other contenders including Corbin Strong. This prompted a chase to catch the two remaining riders from the breakaway. Despite their efforts, the leading duo held on to win, with Strong finishing the day in fourth place. Domenico Pozzovivo finished fifth in the general classification, a mere second away from the overall podium.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Woods praised Williams, stating, “Stevie was super impressive, climbing with the best climbers in the race, managing everything so well. I’m really proud of how he raced!” Woods also expressed his satisfaction with the race and his readiness for the upcoming Tour.
