September 10th, 2023 – 18:01 GMT +2
Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel expressed his exhaustion after participating in the recent stage of the Giro D’Italia. Evenepoel, who is competing for the mountain jersey, admitted to feeling tired after the demanding race.
“It was good to be in the breakaway, it was a goal for the team, but I think my legs just ran out of energy on the final climb,” Evenepoel said. “I couldn’t compete for the stage win today because after yesterday’s stage, I felt pretty tired on the final local lap.”
Despite his fatigue, Evenepoel gave his best effort and managed to gather additional points for his mountain jersey. Reflecting on the second week of the competition, he expressed the need for rest before the final stretch.
“I did my maximum, I tried as much as possible and I took some extra points for my mountain jersey. It’s a good thing to finish the second week. Now I deserve two nice rest days, with the real rest day tomorrow and an easy stage on Tuesday,” Evenepoel shared.
Looking ahead to the upcoming stages, Evenepoel is determined to continue his fight for the mountain jersey and potentially secure another stage win. He conveyed his eagerness to recover during the rest days and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.
“I’m looking forward to the last week. It’s been a really big battle for the last few days. We’re gonna try to recover as much as possible, try to go for another stage win and especially for my mountain jersey,” Evenepoel said optimistically. “Hopefully on Wednesday, I can be up there as well.”
As Evenepoel gathers his strength and rejuvenates during the rest days, supporters eagerly await his future performances in the Giro D’Italia.
