Remco Evenepoel Domination Continues with Solo Breakaway Victory in Vuelta a España Stage 18

Soudal Quick-Step’s Remco Evenepoel showcased his prowess in the mountains once again as he secured a solo breakaway victory in stage 18 of the Vuelta a España. The 23-year-old Belgian not only claimed his third stage win in the race but also secured the King of the Mountains classification. Evenepoel displayed impressive strength and determination on a challenging day of racing, which featured five classified climbs, including the difficult Puerto de la Cruz Linares. This 9.8km ascent, with an average gradient of 8.6%, made its La Vuelta debut. Wearing the polka dot jersey as the best climber, Evenepoel left his rivals behind on the first ascent of the Puerto de la Cruz Linares climb. He outpaced Great Britain’s Max Poole (DSM) and Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious) and went on to finish the stage alone, marking his 50th career win as a professional cyclist. With this victory, Evenepoel becomes the youngest rider in the last 55 years to accumulate 50 professional wins. His dominance in the Vuelta a España continues to impress, cementing his place as one of the brightest talents in the world of cycling.
