Remco Evenepoel Comes Back Strong at La Vuelta
The Belgian Champion, Remco Evenepoel, showcased his incredible strength and determination as he secured his second victory at this year’s La Vuelta race. Evenepoel’s triumph came after a challenging day on the road to the Tourmalet and a sleepless night filled with negative thoughts. He described the stage as “a very difficult day” but persevered and gave everything to claim the win.
Evenepoel’s victory on the 156.5km stage in the Pyrenees was particularly impressive as he took on four classified climbs, including Col Hourcére, Puerto de Larrau, Puerto de Laza, and Larra-Belagua. Speaking after the race, Evenepoel expressed his happiness, saying, “Winning it after what happened on the previous day makes me very happy.”
The 23-year-old rider initiated the attacks early in the race and formed a breakaway with other riders. Together with Romain Bardet, Evenepoel pulled away from their former companions and built a substantial lead of over two minutes. With confident control, Evenepoel powered through the climbs and ultimately surged ahead, arriving alone at the finish line. His impressive display of power and determination secured him his sixth Grand Tour stage win.
Reflecting on his victory, Evenepoel thanked those who supported him and expressed his pride in leading the mountains classification. With several stages still to come in the Vuelta, he mentioned that winning the classification in Madrid could become a goal.
