Remco Evenepoel asserts his intentions with stage win, shows Jumbo he’s not lying

After claiming a stage win in the latest race, Remco Evenepoel made it clear that he is no longer focused on the general classification and is determined to defend the polka-dot jersey. Speaking about his relaxed approach to the race, Evenepoel stated, “I let it go in the end so it was a pretty relaxed day for myself. A stage win is a stage win and [Jonas Vingegaard] takes bonifications. He comes closer to Sepp [Kuss], it makes the two of them even stronger in the lead of the general classification.”
However, it was his strategic move to join the breakaways that had a deeper meaning for the young cyclist. Evenepoel explained, “I took it easier because first of all, I show Jumbo that I’m not lying about not going for GC anymore. Going in the breakaways is more about defending the polka-dot jersey and then if I have an opportunity for another stage win, I don’t know if it will be tomorrow or not, the day after is also a beautiful stage.”
