Matteo Jorgenson Leads Team USA in Maryland Cycling Classic
Matteo Jorgenson, a 24-year-old World Tour rider, headlines the Team USA roster for the upcoming Maryland Cycling Classic, presented by UnitedHealthcare. The race, set to take place on September 3rd, is America’s biggest and most prestigious road race.
Jorgenson, currently the second-ranked U.S. rider and 39th in the UCI World rankings, will be racing for the first time since his injury at this summer’s Tour de France. He has established himself as one of the top riders in the world and has had notable finishes in various races this year.
Joining Jorgenson on the USA Cycling roster are six of the United States’ top Under-23 riders. According to USA Cycling Road Director Tanner Putt, the team is excited about the mix of youth and experience in their lineup.
The Maryland Cycling Classic will feature a world-class field, including Tour de France stage winners and current and former major stage race champions. The race covers a distance of 121.9 miles and starts in Sparks, Md., before finishing at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
The event is the top-ranked one-day professional cycling race in America and will host athletes from 21 countries. The teams competing in the 2023 Maryland Cycling Classic include Astana Qazaqstan Team, Cofidis, Team Corratec Selle Italia, and others.
The race is produced by Sport & Entertainment Corp. of Maryland and is endorsed by Maryland and Baltimore Civic Leaders. It is managed and marketed by Medalist Sports and KOM Sports Marketing.
