ProTeam Maxim Van Gils Prepares for Ardennes Classics

Maxim Van Gils, a member of Lotto Dstny, is looking to continue his strong season debut at the upcoming Ardennes Classics. Van Gils had a strong start to the season and came close to victory at the Volta Limburg Classic two weeks ago. Despite missing the Brabantse Pijl due to illness, the young Belgian is now fit and ready for his second Amstel Gold Race this weekend.

“It doesn’t start in Belgium for me, but in the Amstel Gold Race. Last year, I participated for the first time and I learned that the Amstel is a race without too many moments of rest. Due to the toughness of the race, everyone ends up with an honest result,” Van Gils said.

Van Gils is determined to continue his strong performance in the hilly Classics and hopes to achieve a top ten spot in this Ardennes campaign. “I realise that I’ve taken a step forward and feel more fresh to take on the final of a race. It is nice to see that all the hard work is paying off. Maybe it’s most realistic to do so in the Amstel Gold Race, but also a race such as Flèche Wallonne should definitely suit me,” he added.

The Amstel Gold Race is expected to be a tough edition, with its many hills and technical course. Van Gils believes that the race will split into pieces quite soon, with the steep Keutenberg being a crucial point. He is confident in his team’s strength and is eager to show their abilities on the road.
