Lack of Luck for Laurence Pithie Despite Strong Performance at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne

After a dynamic showing at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Laurence Pithie showcased his talent but missed out on a top result due to some unfortunate circumstances. The New Zealander had a promising start to the race and managed to stay at the front for a significant portion of the event. Despite his best efforts, Pithie ultimately fell short of securing a coveted spot on the podium.

Quoting Laurence Pithie, “I had really good positioning…When Visma-Lease a Bike accelerated, I was able to follow.” Through his efforts, Pithie managed to break away and form a quartet at the front of the race. However, he struggled to match the pace set by the leading trio as the race progressed. Pithie reflected on his performance, saying, “I just missed a little bit to follow the best guys, but it’s coming. The level is here, so race by race it will get better.”

Despite the team’s strong showing, including Pithie’s impressive ride, luck did not favor Groupama-FDJ. Team manager Frédéric Guesdon commented, “Laurence did a great ride, and just missed a little something to go with the three who made it to the end.” Guesdon expressed some disappointment at not achieving the desired result but acknowledged the team’s efforts in a challenging race environment.

Pithie remained positive despite the outcome, acknowledging the competitive field and his progress in European races. He remarked, “Just to be there is a good step in the right direction…It’s a positive day. On to the next one!” Despite the setbacks, Pithie’s determination and resilience hint at a promising future in the competitive world of cycling classics.
