ProTeam Jasper De Buyst extends contract until the end of 2024

# Jasper De Buyst Secures Contract Extension with Lotto Soudal Until 2024

Lotto Soudal has announced a significant contract extension for rider Jasper De Buyst, who will now remain with the team until the end of 2024. The 28-year-old Belgian, celebrating his birthday today, has been an integral part of Lotto Soudal’s setup for nearly a decade.

Having initially joined the team seven years ago, De Buyst has made a name for himself as a key player in the sprint train, primarily supporting star sprinter Caleb Ewan. His achievements include notable victories such as Binche-Chimay-Binche and stage wins at both the Tour of Denmark and the Tour de Wallonie. His recent performance alongside teammate Roger Kluge saw them finish second at the Lotto Six Days Flanders-Ghent event.

Reflecting on his contract extension, De Buyst stated, “This contract extension is a sign of mutual trust and respect and of course I am very happy with that. At the end of this new contract, I will have been riding at the team for ten seasons, which is rather an exception in cycling. I think this says a lot about our nice collaboration during the past seven years. Lotto Soudal has become a real home and even though I am still 28, it feels like I am already part of the most experienced riders within the team.”

Lotto Soudal’s General Manager, John Lelangue, echoed this sentiment, expressing his satisfaction with De Buyst’s continued presence on the team. “Like in 2019, we extend Jasper his contract for the same length of time as Caleb Ewan’s. Jasper has been part of Lotto Soudal for seven years now and it was a priority to keep him on board. As one of the main guys in Caleb’s sprint train, Jasper has contributed to many victories, and I am sure there are many more to follow in the coming years. We’ve also signed some reinforcements for the sprint train with the likes of Jarrad Drizners, Michael Schwarzmann, and Rüdiger Selig, giving riders like Jasper De Buyst a bit more freedom to pursue their own results.”

As he looks forward to his future with Lotto Soudal, De Buyst is eager to balance his role as a lead-out rider with pursuing personal victories. “Of course, I will still give my all at the service of our sprinters the coming years. I’ve put aside my personal ambitions for several years now so it will be something of a test to try and go for some own results. In any case, it would be nice to be able to do a bit of both. Of course, I would like to win a few more races. Besides, at 28 I’m already considered as a road captain within the team, so I definitely feel like passing on my experience to the younger generation,” he concluded.

With his renewed commitment, fans can expect more exciting performances from De Buyst as he aims to both facilitate wins for Ewan and carve out his own successes in the sport.
