ProTeam Arjen Livyns second for his home crowd in Vichte
After three weeks of the Vuelta, Arjen Livyns felt his legs were still a bit tired. “But despite that fatigue, I still feel strength,” he said. That was evident this afternoon in Vichte, where, halfway through the race, he rode with a group of eight riders, including teammate Lionel Taminiaux, to a breakaway group of ten. “At the start of the final lap, I managed to break away with someone from VolkerWessels, and five kilometers from the finish, two more riders joined us… including another rider from the same team, unfortunately. The two took turns attacking. I responded two, three times, and when one of them attacked again, I gambled that the fourth man in our group would take over the work, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. Max Kroonen of VolkerWessels was able to finish off the teamwork, and I could only sprint for second place.”
Livyns is not dissatisfied, but naturally would have preferred to win. “The race passed by my grandparents’ house, by my uncle’s house, and there were many people cheering for me along the roadside… Of course, you’d rather win for your own people. Still, it was nice to race so close to home again.”
