ProTeam Alec Segaert looks ahead to the Tour of Denmark: “Denmark is similar to Flemish racing and that suits me”

# Alec Segaert Gears Up for Tour of Denmark: A Reflection of Flemish Racing

Alec Segaert is set to make his mark at the upcoming Tour of Denmark, stepping in to replace Arnaud De Lie, who is skipping the event in favor of competing with the Bemer–Renewi team post-Tour de France. This year, Segaert will be transitioning from the Renewi team, where he famously clinched his first WorldTour victory in the time trial last season, to focus on the dynamic challenges that Denmark presents.

“The Renewi Tour doesn’t have an individual time trial on the program this year,” Segaert explains, highlighting the strategic decision to shift his racing schedule.

This race will mark Segaert’s return to competition after a break following the Belgian Championships in late June. “After that, I took some rest and then went on training camp and altitude, first in Portugal, then in Sestriere, Italy,” he recounts. Now, as he prepares for the flat, twisty roads of Denmark, he expresses optimism about his performance. “Denmark reminds me a bit of Flemish racing: lots of twists and turns, narrow roads, short climbs, and wind that can play a role… The Tour of Denmark really has that Flemish style and that suits me.”

Among his objectives is the 14-kilometre time trial in Kerteminde, set for day three of the tour. “We have a course with few corners, almost flat, not too difficult or technical,” he notes. However, he recognizes the stiff competition in the General Classification (GC), mentioning notable contenders like Mads Pedersen, Mattias Skjelmose, and Johan Price-Pejtersen. “There are some strong blocks at the start. I expect that especially in stage four, the longest one at nearly 230 kilometres, the GC could be shaken up. But with a good time trial, it’s always possible to aim for a strong overall result,” he concludes.

With the race approaching, all eyes will be on Segaert as he embraces both the challenges and the opportunities that the Tour of Denmark has to offer.
