# Celebrating Cycling Excellence: 2025 Pantani Memorial Set for September
08/09/2025 – The anticipation is building for the Marco Pantani Memorial 2025, which will take place on Saturday, September 13, in Cesenatico. This annual race honors the legacy of renowned cyclist Marco Pantani, affectionately known as “The Pirate,” while also reviving the spirit of competitive cycling on its scenic roads.
The event’s organization is spearheaded by Gruppo Sportivo Emilia, with vital support from the Panathlon Club Cesena, under the leadership of president Dionigio Dionigi, and the enduring backing of Pino Buda’s Sidermec. The intertwining of passion, memory, and local heritage has solidified the Pantani Memorial as a key fixture on the international cycling calendar, transforming it into a celebration for the entire Romagna region.
The ceremonial unveiling saw notable figures in attendance, including Matteo Gozzoli, the Mayor of Cesenatico; Alessandro Spada, Vice President of the Emilia Romagna FCI Regional Committee; Maria Laura Guardamagna, Councillor of the Professional Cycling League; as well as family members Tonina and Paolo Pantani, Adriano Amici, and Dionigi Dionigi.
This year’s race, which serves as a round of the Coppa Italia delle Regioni—part of the prestigious Challenge of the Professional Cycling League—returns to its roots in Cesenatico, featuring both the start and finish along the picturesque seafront. Following a controlled pace transfer section, riders will dive into the heart of the competition with a challenging first in-line segment of just under 14 kilometers that leads them into the hills.
The Sogliano al Rubicone circuit, to be tackled three times, introduces demanding climbs and technical descents. Cyclists will face irregular stretches and hairpin turns, testing their resilience as they maneuver towards the valley floor.
The Longiano circuit will further challenge participants as they contend with steep inclines and narrow roads that put their endurance and strategies to the ultimate test. The Gran Premio della Montagna di Longiano will reward their efforts with a captivating route through the village, featuring a technical descent and a new section leading to the Roncofreddo climb.
As the race progresses, riders will make their way back towards the sea, facing potential headwinds that could thwart even the best-laid plans of the peloton. The emotional passage in front of Pantani’s former home signals their return to Cesenatico, culminating in four final laps of the city circuit. These final stretches, marked by long straights, will set the stage for a dramatic sprint or an unexpected move from a savvy competitor.
This celebration of cycling not only pays tribute to a legendary figure but also fosters community spirit and camaraderie among cycling enthusiasts across the region. Be sure to mark your calendars for this extraordinary event that honors both heritage and athletic prowess.
