Phil Bauhaus Takes Stage 3 Win in Tirreno-Adriatico Amidst Long and Uneventful Day
The third stage of Tirreno-Adriatico proved to be a test of endurance and strategy as riders tackled a challenging 225-kilometre route from Volterra to Gualdo Tadino. Despite a breakaway attempt early on in the race, it was the sprinters who ultimately shone, with Phil Bauhaus claiming victory at the finish line in Gualdo Tadino. The general classification saw some movement, with Romain Grégoire climbing to sixth place but still trailing the leader Juan Ayuso by twenty-two seconds.
The stage was characterized by a long and uneventful day, with a two-man breakaway of Jan Stöckli and Samuele Zoccarato holding a significant lead before being reeled in by the peloton. Team efforts and strategic positioning were crucial in the final kilometers, with Groupama-FDJ working to ensure Romain Grégoire’s position.
“We had to be careful in the final,” noted Yvon Caër, reflecting on the challenges of navigating the wet roads and positioning the team effectively. Despite attempts by some teams to shake up the peloton on the climbs, the sprinters maintained a strong presence in the finale, culminating in Phil Bauhaus’s sprint victory.
Looking ahead, Yvon Caër highlighted the upcoming stages, noting, “It’s an uneventful day and we will now get to hillier stages. Tomorrow it could again be quite calm. There is a long climb, but early, then the final isn’t very hard. We will remain attentive if a good break goes, but we are above all waiting for the hard weekend.” As the race progresses, teams will continue to adapt their strategies and tactics in pursuit of success in Tirreno-Adriatico.
