The final kilometers of the race saw a thrilling battle unfold, with Bilbao launching his attack at 3km to go. Although he was unable to secure the stage victory, his strong performance earned him a well-deserved 2nd place, propelling him to 3rd place overall.
Reflecting on his race, Bilbao shared, “It was a really strange day, super intense racing, and maybe I was too excited in the last climb. I was feeling really strong, I wanted to go for the victory, for my Birthday for my teammates…” Despite missing out on the stage win, Bilbao expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and his podium finish.
After a grueling seven days of racing, Pello Bilbao’s podium success at the UAE Tour was a testament to his determination and the support of his team. His birthday podium finish atop Jebel Hafeet will surely be a memorable moment in his cycling career.
