Paul Double wins in Sogliano al Rubicone and jumps into the lead of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali 2025
Twenty-eight-year-old Paul Double (Jaiko Alula) won today the second stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, which was raced from Riccione to Sogliano al Rubicone. The protagonist of a real coup de grâce in the finale, the Briton preceded Belgian Jarno Widar and Italian Diego Ulissi, triumphant on this finish line last and in 2013.The first kilometers of the race saw a four-man breakaway form with Carlos Samudio (Team Solution Tech – Vini Fantini), Mathieu Burgaudeau (Team TotalEnergies), Marc Cabedo (JCL Team UKYO) and Dominik Amann (Team Vorarlberg). Their lead quickly touched four minutes. At the first GPM of the day, Cabedo was ahead of Samudio and Burgaudeau. On the stretch to the Sogliano al Rubicone circuit, UAE Team Emirates – XRG’s forcing reduced the gap further, while Caleb Ewan, winner of the first stage and leader of the classification, was accusing difficulties in the main group. The group regrouped at the 100th kilometer after the second GPM won again by Cabedo. The finale was characterized by a long series of attacks. With 32 kilometers to go, a downhill attempt by Kim Heiduk (INEOS Grenadiers), Pascal Eenkhoorn and Thomas Pesenti (Soudal Quick-Step) and Rafał Majka (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) had no luck, allowing the peloton to come back together. The epilogue of the stage was decided by a handspring by Paul Double with just over two kilometers to go. The Briton was able to resist the return of the immediate chasers by taking the victory, ahead of Belgian Jarno Widar (Lotto Development Team) and Italian Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana Team), which also earned him the overall leader’s jersey with a 4″ advantage over Widar and 6″ over Ulissi. For Double there is also the leadership in the points classification, while Spaniard Marc Cabedo (JCL Team Ukyo) will wear the leader’s jersey in the GPM classification, and Jarno Widar that of best young rider.Tomorrow, the final stages of the third stage (Riccione – Cesena) will be streamed live from www.tuttobiciweb.it, starting at 2:50 p.m., and by Rai Sport from 6:10 p.m.ORDER OF ARRIVALGENERAL CLASSIFICGENERAL POINTSCLASSIFICGENERAL GPM CLASSIFICGENERAL YOUNG CLASSIFIC
