Pascal Eenkhoorn Thrives in Sprint to Secure Second Place on Home Roads

The Volta NXT Classic saw Pascal Eenkhoorn showcasing his prowess on his home roads with a memorable sprint performance. The race, a smaller rendition of the Amstel Gold Race, covered 190 kilometers with both the start and finish in Eijsden, featuring numerous challenging climbs. Nine riders initially broke away, including Mathijs Paasschens, but the gap never extended beyond 2 minutes. Eventually, Eenkhoorn and Harm Vanhoucke bridged the distance to join the front group, leading to a frantic series of attacks.

During the race, Eenkhoorn made a decisive move on the Mheerelindje climb, countering Frank Van den Broek’s attack and breaking away solo with 15 kilometers remaining. Timo Kielich from Alpecin-Deceuninck managed to catch up, forming a two-man breakaway. Despite their efforts, Eenkhoorn settled for second place in the sprint finish.

Eenkhoorn reflected on his performance, stating, “I gave everything, it was just not enough, but I tried everything and even went solo so no regrets. I don’t think I went too early, as it was the last difficult part where I knew I could maybe drop the rest.” He acknowledged the challenges faced during the race but expressed satisfaction with his performance, mentioning, “It’s a pity that it’s with a second place, but we did all we could.”

Despite narrowly missing the top spot, Eenkhoorn’s resilience and determination shone through in the race, leaving a lasting impression on his rivals and fans alike.
