The Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders, who wore red race numbers today due to their leading position in the team classification, faced another challenging day. Like Wednesday’s stage, Thursday’s route featured a demanding profile, with over 3,000 meters of elevation gain, making for a relentless up-and-down day.
A breakaway of twelve riders tried their luck, but the last remaining attacker saw his chances vanish with three kilometers to go.

At that moment, Juan Ayuso and Roglič launched an acceleration from the group of favorites. Yates and Kuss couldn’t follow, with the British rider finishing as the team’s best-placed rider.

“It was a really tough stage”, Kuss said after the finish. “The intensity was significantly higher than yesterday. The pace was high all day, and it was constantly up and down. Maybe I didn’t get a standout result, but I still take a good feeling from today’s final climb. Tomorrow will likely be a sprint stage, but for me, the focus is already on Saturday’s stage. That promises to be a very difficult day, especially after these past few tough stages.”
