# Team Visma | Lease a Bike Falls Short in Challenging Stage 2 of the Tour de Pologne
In a demanding second stage of the Tour de Pologne, set against the backdrop of the hilly terrain of Karpacz, Team Visma | Lease a Bike faced a formidable challenge. The stage involved four categorized climbs and culminated with a steep ascent, setting the stage for an intense race.
Olav Kooij entered the day as the overall leader after his impressive victory in the previous stage. From the start, Team Visma | Lease a Bike took the initiative, controlling the peloton with a strong effort led by Niklas Behrens. His relentless pace was crucial in keeping the gap to the early breakaway manageable.
As the race neared its climax, the remaining escapee, Max Walker, was reeled in by the drastically reduced peloton. With hopes pinned on Matthew Brennan for a strong finish, Team Visma seemed poised to challenge; however, the demanding finale proved too taxing for the team.
“We rode strongly throughout the stage but came up short in the final kilometres,” stated sports director Jesper Mørkøv. He expressed disappointment, remarking, “This was unfortunately not the result we had hoped for. Niklas did an excellent job at the front of the peloton in support of Matthew Brennan. Matthew was determined to be in the mix today, but in the end, he simply didn’t have enough left. Tomorrow presents another good opportunity for him to show what he can do, and we’re looking forward to that.”
