Newly Renamed Astana Qazaqstan Team Unveils 2022 Roster in Nur-Sultan

The 2022 Astana Qazaqstan Team roster was officially presented at the Saryarka Velodrome in Nur-Sultan, the capital city of Kazakhstan. The team will enter its 17th cycling season with 29 riders from seven different countries. Among the team leaders are Alexey Lutsenko from Kazakhstan, Miguel Angel Lopez from Colombia, Vincenzo Nibali from Italy, and Gianni Moscon from Italy.

Two new neo-pro riders, Nurbergen Nurlykhassym of Kazakhstan and Michele Gazzoli of Italy, were also introduced. The team’s racing calendars and goals will be established during their first training camp in Spain.

Alexandr Vinokurov, the team General Manager, expressed his optimism for the upcoming season, stating, “Despite a difficult transfer period, we managed to gather a strong and ambitious team… The team has a new face, but we remain the same Astana team, which is well known all over the world.”

The team was presented under its newly renamed name, Astana Qazaqstan Team, which reflects a more accurate and correct transcription of Kazakhstan. Nurlan Smagurov, President of Kazakhstan Cycling Federation, highlighted the fusion of experience and youth in the team and wished them success in their 17th season.

The full roster of the 2022 season includes riders from various nationalities, and the team will be led by sports directors such as Alexandr Shefer and Giuseppe Martinelli.

The presentation of the team comes just ahead of the thirtieth anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence, adding significance to the event. The team will now prepare for the new season and set their sights on achieving victories under their new name, Astana Qazaqstan Team.
