Neilands and Vanmarcke Show Strong Performances at E3 Saxo Classic
Israel–Premier Tech riders Krists Neilands and Sep Vanmarcke delivered impressive performances at the E3 Saxo Classic, a race often referred to as the “mini Tour of Flanders.” Despite the challenging course with small roads and steep climbs, both riders showcased their skills and determination throughout the race.
Neilands, finishing in 12th place, gave his all to catch the race leaders, highlighting his commitment and endurance on the road. He commented on his experience, saying, “It was a really tough race. Especially for me, as I have never been in this much action there at the front of the peloton at this race.”
Vanmarcke also displayed his fighting spirit, actively following early attacks and bridging gaps on multiple occasions. Although he missed the decisive move on the Oude Kwaremont, he expressed confidence in his performance, stating, “It’s promising for the next races.”
Israel–Premier Tech Sports Director Steve Bauer praised both riders’ efforts, emphasizing their presence among the race’s top contenders. He said, “We had Sep up with the favorites for a long time, really in the mix with the best challengers of the day, and Krists coming back into the front group and working with Sep to get the best performance possible.”
Bauer acknowledged that Neilands ran out of energy in the final stretch but recognized his solid 12th place finish. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for the team’s future races, anticipating further improvement from Neilands and Vanmarcke. “We hope the progress is good for both of them and they’ll be even better in the next races,” he added.
The Israel–Premier Tech classics team will continue their quest for success as they compete in the upcoming Gent-Wevelgem race, which features cobbled climbs, including the challenging Kemmelberg.
