Aleksandr Vlasov Finishes Second in Vuelta a Burgos
Aleksandr Vlasov of Russia concluded the Vuelta a Burgos in Spain in second place overall after a tough mountain finish in Lagunas de Neila. The final stage of the five-day race saw an early breakaway dominate the race, but they were caught by the peloton just 10km before the finish. The stage win and general classification came down to a 7km long and up to 18% steep final climb.
Primoz Roglic, Adam Yates, and Aleksandr Vlasov broke away from the peloton in the last 3km of the race. In the sprint, Roglic secured not only the stage win but also the overall race victory. Vlasov crossed the line in third place and successfully defended his second-place position in the overall rankings.
Vlasov’s team from Raubling had a strong performance throughout the race. They finished in third place in the team time trial, achieved a second-place finish with Vlasov on the queen stage, secured third place on the final stage, and secured second place in the general classification.
“The guys did a great job to bring me well to the decisive climb today. I started the steepest and most important part in a good position, and it looked promising as I had good legs today,” said Vlasov after the race. “I felt like I was able to ride for a good result, but ultimately Yates and Roglic were that bit faster in the uphill finish, so it wasn’t possible to do any more. However, from how I’ve ridden this week here, I can say that I’m really pleased with my form at the moment and I’m also happy to have defended my second place in GC, which is a very strong result.”
