Moritz Kretschy moves into Alpes Isère Tour lead after solo stage 4 victory
To catch the peloton out with one late stage-winning attack is impressive. Moritz Kretschy has now achieved that twice in three days at Alpes Isère Tour, this time with a move nobody followed that saw him win stage 4 and move into the yellow jersey of the French race with one stage remaining.
Kretschy won a two-up sprint in Satolas-et-Bonce on stage 2 after opportunistically attacking after the day’s final intermediate sprint. In Saturday’s stage to Saint-Maurice-L’Exil, he used a fast descent on the approach to the finish line to make his move and solo four kilometers to the line.
The German finished 19 seconds ahead of a reduced peloton, with this gap and the time bonus on the line giving him a one-second advantage on GC over previous leader Valentin Darbellay. Two other riders sit just two seconds down going into Sunday’s final stage.
